Josef M. Gerwald (born January 25, 1932 ) is a German journalist .

Act

After working for various newspapers, Gerwald worked as an editor for Deutschlandfunk from 1962 to 1974 . Until 1981 he was spokesman for the FDP and was then entrusted with special tasks at AEG-Telefunken . Artistic director Klaus Schütz appointed him editor-in-chief of Deutsche Welle in 1982 . In 1987 he became its program director.

He was temporarily responsible editor of the Liberal Student Newspaper , which was published by the federal board of the Liberal Student Union of Germany (LSD).

From 1985 to 1991 he was a member of the board of the liberal Friedrich Naumann Foundation for Freedom , from 1982 to 1985 and from 1988 to 2011 a member of its board of trustees and from 1991 to 2011 a member of its program committee.
