The Federal Congress of the FDP in 1976 held the FDP from 19 to 20 November 1976 in Frankfurt am Main from. It was the 27th ordinary federal party conference of the FDP in the Federal Republic of Germany .

course

After the federal election in 1976 , the federal party congress met to give an account of the situation of the FDP and its future path. In addition, the party congress was an occasion to initiate a fundamental reflection on the function and mandate of the liberals in the late 1970s and to determine how the FDP strategy of independence should be continued.

In his speech at the party congress, chairman Hans-Dietrich Genscher stated that the state associations were free to choose their coalition partner, i.e. they could also form a coalition with the CDU , which was in opposition at the federal level . However, to the applause of the delegates, he restricted the statement to the effect that the goal of coalition policy in the federal states must be to support federal legislation.

The party congress revealed the deep disagreement between the liberals and the strength of their left wing. The FDP Upper Bavaria and the Young Democrats had submitted a motion for the de facto abolition of the radical decree. The federal executive countered this with its own compromise proposal, which was accepted with a narrow majority. After that, the active fight against the free democratic basic order should no longer be an obstacle to taking over into the public service, but only demonstrable action against its core elements.

decisions

At the party congress, a paper by the federal executive committee on health policy was discussed and adopted. A resolution was also passed on the construction of nuclear power plants .
