Course and resolutions

Letter of invitation to the XX. Ordinary federal party congress from June 23 to 25, 1969 in Nuremberg

The most important item on the agenda was the adoption of the program for the 1969 Bundestag election , the “Nuremberg election platform”. In his opening speech, party chairman Walter Scheel described the election of Gustav Heinemann as Federal President as a "pure personnel decision". On March 5, 1969, the majority of the FDP delegates in the Federal Assembly voted for the SPD candidate and against the CDU applicant Gerhard Schröder and helped Heinemann to achieve an extremely narrow majority.
