The FDP held the first of two extraordinary federal party conventions in 1998 on April 19, 1998 in Berlin . It was the 15th extraordinary federal party conference of the FDP in the Federal Republic of Germany .

The theme of the party conference was the "Future of Work in Germany". The federal chairman Wolfgang Gerhardt gave a keynote address entitled “Social security means work”.
