The FDP held the first of two extraordinary federal party conventions in 1998 on April 19, 1998 in Berlin . It was the 15th extraordinary federal party conference of the FDP in the Federal Republic of Germany .

The theme of the party conference was the "Future of Work in Germany". The federal chairman Wolfgang Gerhardt gave a keynote address entitled “Social security means work”. This was followed by a panel discussion on the subject of “Work must pay off again”, attended by, among others, the President of the Confederation of German Employers' Associations Dieter Hundt , the President of the Central Association of German Craftsmen Dieter Philipp , the President of the Federal Employment Agency Bernhard Jagoda , the honorary chairman of the Mining, Chemical and Energy Union Hermann Rappe and the Minister of Economic Affairs of Baden-Württemberg Walter Döring took part. Federal Minister of Economics Günter Rexrodt and Deputy Federal Chairwoman Cornelia Pieper brought in the key motions “Jobs for Germany” and “Achievement for the new federal states” . The Rhineland-Palatinate Minister of Economics, Rainer Brüderle , held the closing remarks .
