Dieter Philipp (association official)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Dieter Philipp (born September 18, 1943 in Aachen ) is a German association functionary . He was President of the Aachen Chamber of Crafts until April 30, 2020 and is Honorary President of the Central Association of German Crafts (ZDH) and the Aachen Chamber of Crafts.

Live and act

Dieter Philipp was born in the Aachen district of Burtscheid as the son of the painter Emil Philipp. Starting in 1958, he also completed an apprenticeship as a painter and varnisher in his father's company and also attended the commercial evening school in Aachen. From 1961 he then attended evening courses in design and art at the Werkkunstschule Aachen . Finally he passed his master craftsman examination in 1965 and started his own business in 1975 together with his brother Karl Emil in the form of an OHG . The previous range of services was expanded to include the areas of monument preservation and restoration in the painting trade in addition to the usual orders . Another ten years later, Dieter Philipp founded a trading company for interior fittings after obtaining his qualification as a restorer .

Dieter Philipp began early on to get involved in the guild of painters and varnishers in a variety of ways. After a few years as an apprentice warden, he took over the chairmanship of the journeyman's examination committee from 1968 to 1975. From 1975 to 1986 he was a member of the guild as a deputy head master and at the same time until 1993 as a deputy member of the master craftsman's examination committee.

In addition, Philipp made particular efforts to improve the quality of training in all trades and, for these reasons, was one of the founding members of the Young Craftsmen Working Group (AJH) in the Aachen district of the Aachen Chamber of Crafts, which he then assumed chairmanship until 1985 and who has been awarding the AJH craft prize for special and extraordinary craftsmanship since 1998. Philipp had also been a member and alternate chairman of the vocational training committee of the HWK since 1983.

In the mid-1980s he was elected deputy chairman of the HWK Aachen and at the same time was committed to the CDU in local politics in Aachen. In the electoral term from 1989 to 1994 he held the office of mayor of the city of Aachen during the term of office of Lord Mayor Jürgen Linden ( SPD ) .

Finally, in 1994, Philipp succeeded Anton Immendorf as President of the Aachen Chamber of Crafts and held this position without interruption until 2020. In spring 2020 he resigned from this office and was elected Honorary President of the Chamber. In addition, from 1995 to 1997 he held the position of deputy chairman of the West German Chamber of Crafts . In addition, Philipp was elected President of the Central Association of German Crafts on November 26, 1996 at the German Crafts Day in Freiburg im Breisgau to succeed Heribert Späth and handed over this office to his successor Otto Kentzler on January 19, 2005 after three terms in office .

In his function as ZDH President, Philipp supported the establishment of the Mittelstand working group and advocated a tax reform suitable for SMEs, ensured close integration of the skilled trades into the group of leading associations of the German economy and, in the Alliance for Work , campaigned decisively against early retirement. However, as ZDH President he was not entirely undisputed, among other things, he was made responsible for a certain prevention and blockade at the discussions on the amendment to the Crafts and Crafts Code in 2003 and a year later for the bankruptcy of the Internet portal Handwerk.de. Nevertheless, after leaving the ZDH, Philipp was appointed honorary president of the ZDH for his overall performance.

In his private life, Dieter Philipp has always remained connected to the family business, which his son Marcel Philipp , also trained as a restorer in the painting trade, was continued in the third generation as a managing partner from 1996 onwards. However, Marcel Philipp left this activity after he ran for the CDU in the local elections in 2009 and was elected Lord Mayor of the city of Aachen.

Special honor

In recognition of his services to the reconstruction of the Sacred Heart Cathedral in Sarajevo , Dieter Philipp was awarded the Knight's Cross of the Papal Order of Gregory in 2012. After the severe damage to the cathedral in the Bosnian War from 1992 to 1995, the pastor from Aachen, who later appointed Monsignor Heribert August, initiated support for its reconstruction as part of the Bosnian Aid. In this context, Dieter Philipp organized the necessary collection of donations and recruited the appropriate skilled workers and craftsmen from his extensive circle of friends who took part in the lengthy work on the reconstruction of the cathedral.

On July 1, 2020, he was awarded the Order of Merit of the State of North Rhine-Westphalia .
