Klaus Knuth
Klaus Knuth (born August 26, 1935 in Hamburg ; † April 26, 2012 in Küsnacht , Switzerland ) was a German-Swiss actor . He was the son of Gustav Knuth .
Life
Klaus Knuth was born to the couple Gustav Knuth and Gustl Busch , who were both actors. After his parents' divorce, he lived with his mother until he came to his father in Zurich in 1946/1947 when he went to the Zurich theater . Klaus Knuth completed his school days in Zurich from 1947. Klaus Knuth originally wanted to become a cameraman, but noticed how easy it was for him to play during a performance by the school theater.
So he finally went to Vienna to attend the Max Reinhardt Seminar . This was followed by engagements at the Theater in der Josefstadt (1958/1959), the Düsseldorfer Schauspielhaus (1959–1962) and the Münchner Kammerspiele (1962–1965). At the Düsseldorfer Schauspielhaus he played in the 1960/1961 season, among other things, the Aston in the play Der Hausmeister (German-language premiere: October 29, 1960). In 1965 he came to the Schauspielhaus Zürich , where he remained a member of the ensemble until his retirement in 2000. Even after his retirement, Klaus Knuth continued to work as a freelance actor at the Schauspielhaus Zurich; his last appearance there was in June 2011 at a reading. Initially he played alongside his father at the Schauspielhaus Zürich. Both looked alike, but were of different characters. Klaus Knuth was considered a “master of restraint”.
Klaus Knuth's stage roles included Rodrigo in Othello (1965, director: Leopold Lindtberg ), Andres in Woyzeck (1972; director: Friedrich Dürrenmatt ), Count Appiani in Emilia Galotti (1974, director: Friedrich Dürrenmatt) and the missionary Oskar Rose in Die Physiker (1987, directed by Achim Benning ). In the 1975/1976 season he took on the role of the policeman in the Brecht play Der gute Mensch von Sezuan (director: Manfred Wekwerth ; premiere: March 1976). In 1981, under the direction of Werner Düggelin , he played the role of Donati in the premiere of the play Grandfather and Half-Brother by Thomas Hürlimann . At the Schauspielhaus Zürich he appeared repeatedly in plays by Friedrich Dürrenmatt, for example as Duke in the comedy Die Frist (world premiere: October 1977), and in October 1983 in the world premiere of Dürrenmatt's comedy Achterloo .
In the 2008/2009 season he gave the premiere of the theater project Ebenda - Ein Gedächtnistheater at the Stadttheater Bern ; Director was Lukas Bärfuss .
Klaus Knuth is nowhere near the fame of his father and has not appeared in so many films, but in over 30 films. In 1957 he was seen alongside Romy Schneider as Prince Ludwig in the film Sissi - Fateful Years of an Empress . In addition to his father Gustav Knuth, he played in the television series Die Powenzbande (1973). In 1981 he played alongside Bruno Ganz in the feature film The Inventor , directed by Kurt Gloor .
He was married to the actress Hannelore Fischer, a niece of OW Fischer . Her daughter Nicole is also an actress.
