Richard Uhlemeyer

Richard Uhlemeyer (born October 3, 1900 in Göttingen ; † November 4, 1954 , according to other information November 7, 1954 , in Hanover ) was a German craftsman, entrepreneur and from 1949 to 1954 the first president of the Central Association of German Crafts (ZDH) .

Life

Richard Uhlemeyer attended the arts and crafts school in Hanover in the 1920s and studied a. a. at Ludwig Vierthaler Sculpture .

After completing his studies, he initially worked as a freelancer, then founded a wholesaler of handicrafts in 1930 and a pottery five years later, which gained national fame under the name Kunsthandwerk Richard Uhlemeyer .

Thanks to his entrepreneurial and organizational skills, he was able to take on an important position within the Hanoverian and German craft policy. In 1945 he was elected President of the Hanover Chamber of Crafts and four years later the first President of the ZDH.

During his tenure he campaigned for the interests of medium-sized businesses and spoke out against any further preference for industry over craft.

Shortly after his re-election as president, Uhlemeyer died in 1954 of a heart attack.
