Heribert Späth

Heribert Späth (born November 28, 1937 in Munich ) is a former German entrepreneur and former President of the Central Association of German Crafts (ZDH) .

Life

Späth began studying civil engineering at the Technical University of Munich , which he completed in 1962 with a diploma. He then joined his father's construction company Späth-Bau GmbH , which he managed as managing partner from 1980. As a part-time job, he also completed a degree in ergonomics and economics, which he completed in 1964 with a degree in industrial engineering. The Späth-Bau GmbH merged with the E. Liebergesell GmbH & Co. KG in 1991 and Späth also took over the management of the new company. The company Späth-Liebergesell GmbH & Co.KG , created by the merger, had to close in 2004 after bankruptcy.

From 1972 to 1984 he was an honorary city councilor of the state capital Munich.

In parallel to his professional career, his commitment and the associated advancement in craft organizations also took place. In 1966 he was a member of the board of the Munich Building Guild, from 1970 to 1979 as its chief master. Since 1974 he has also been a member of the general assembly and the board of the Chamber of Crafts for Munich and Upper Bavaria . From 1979 to 1994 he was President of the Chamber of Crafts for Munich and Upper Bavaria. From 1979 to 1990 he was also President of the Bavarian Crafts Day.

As a member of the Presidium, he had been a member of the ZDH since 1980 and eight years later took over the office of President from his predecessor Paul Schnitker . During his term of office from 1988 to 1996, the reunification of Germany took place and Späth showed his special attachment to the craft in the new federal states. He signaled the willingness of the skilled trades in the old federal states to provide assistance in building an economic system based on the social market economy , and emphasized the importance of small and medium-sized enterprises as the basis of a healthy medium-sized enterprise.

After nine years in office, Dieter Philipp was elected as his successor and Späth as honorary president in 1996 . Heribert Späth received several awards in recognition of his services, including the Great Federal Cross of Merit .
