Karlsschützengilde

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Karlsschützengilde before 1198 Aachen e. V. is one of the most traditional rifle guilds in Germany, which was founded before 1198 to protect the Free Imperial City of Aachen and in particular the Palatine Chapel at that time , today's Aachen Cathedral . The exact date of foundation is not documented, but it cannot be ruled out that the foundation could have taken place during the time of Charlemagne , whereupon the Karlsschützengilde held its 1200th anniversary in 1999. This makes the Karlsschützengilde the oldest association in Germany.

The politically and denominationally neutral Karlsschützengilde currently has around 300 members and is a member of the Federation of Historic German Shooting Brotherhoods , the German Rifle Federation (DSB), as a co-founder of the Rheinischer Schützenbund (RSB), the State Sports Association of North Rhine-Westphalia and the City Sports Association of Aachen. Every year at the end of January, the association organizes the King's and Patronage Festival in honor of Charlemagne and, in August, the King's, Prince's Bird and Target King's shooting.

In addition, the Karlsschützengilde is also active in the field of sport shooting and offers professional training opportunities in the Olympic shooting disciplines with rifles , pistols , crossbows and target shooting, and from 2009 also in archery on its shooting range in Aachen in the district of Eilendorf , which is also a performance base . With its marksmen, the club competes in all classes and at all levels up to German championships and organizes various shooting competitions itself.

The Karlsschützengilde is currently headed by Robert van Eisern. The honorary president is the long-time president Karl-Heinz van Eisern, father of the current president, who was also acting vice-president of the RSB and member of the advisory board of the DSB. The former mayors of the city of Aachen Kurt Malangré and Jürgen Linden , as well as the president of the Aachen Chamber of Crafts , Dieter Philipp and the roofer Wolfgang Rossbroich have been appointed honorary members of the association.
