Josef Maurer (politician)

Josef Maurer (born April 4, 1928 in Nenzing ; † February 12, 2019 ibid) was an Austrian politician ( ÖVP ) as well as a farmer and innkeeper. From 1981 to 1984 he was a member of the Vorarlberg state parliament .

education and profession

After attending the primary school in Nenzing, Maurer was obliged to do agricultural work between 1942 and 1944 during the Second World War. He was drafted into military service in autumn 1944 and returned from Yugoslav war captivity in February 1946. After returning from the war, he worked on his parents' farm until 1968, which he finally took over in 1968. In addition, from 1967 to 1995 he ran the "Gasthof Bazul". Around 1995 he in turn handed over the farm.

Politics and functions

Maurer joined the Austrian People's Party or its sub-organization, the Bauernbund, around 1953 and acted as deputy chairman of the Nenzing farmers' union from 1956 to 1965. He was also chairman of the Nenzing farmers' union from 1975 to 1985 and a member of the state party leadership of the ÖVP Vorarlberg and the district party leadership of the ÖVP Bludenz from 1975 to 1985. Maurer was active in local politics from 1965 to 1985 as a member of the Nenzing community council, and from 1980 to 1985 he was a member of the local council, where he was responsible for the agriculture and road construction departments from 1980 to 1985.

As a member of the Bludenz constituency, he represented the ÖVP in the state parliament from October 14, 1981, succeeding Ignaz Battlogg . At the end of the legislative period, Maurer resigned from the state parliament on November 5, 1984. In the state parliament, Maurer was a member of the Economics Committee and a member of the Agriculture Committee.

In addition to his political activities, Maurer was also chairman of the Nenzing cattle breeding association from 1954 to 1997, was a committee member from 1965 to 1980 and deputy chairman of the Nenzing agricultural community from 1980 to 1985, and chairman of the Vorarlberg Brown Cattle Breeding Association from 1970 to 1993. He was also a member of the Vorarlberg Chamber of Agriculture from 1971 to 1986 and a member of the state's alpine economy from 1971 to 1993.

Private

Maurer was born as the son of the Nenzing farmer Josef Maurer and his wife Rosa from Bangs . He married Albertina Schallert in 1950; the marriage remained childless.
