Josef Nikolaus Geis

Josef Nikolaus Geis (born June 10, 1892 in Munich ; † September 1, 1952 there ) was an artist , illustrator and graphic artist working in Munich .

life and career

Josef Geis painted for the humorous weekly Fliegende Blätter , and later for the Munich art and literary magazine Jugend , for which he often designed the front page. For the SPD he designed very impressive posters against National Socialism. In 1929 he designed a poster with the stereotype of the "vertebrate Bolshevik".

He was a grandson of the popular singer Jakob Geis , his father was the actor and singer Josef Geis (1867–1940) and his brother the dramaturge and screenwriter Jacob Geis .
