Josef Poestion
Josef Carl Poestion (born June 7, 1853 in Aussee , † May 4, 1922 in Vienna ) was an Austrian Scandinavian .
Life
From 1896, Poestion, who came from Styria, was director of the library of the political administration in the Ministry of the Interior in Vienna. From 1901 he was a councilor, most recently head of the section .
After his death Poestion was buried in the Vienna Central Cemetery in a grave of honor (group 0, cemetery wall, number 93). In 1938 Poestiongasse in Vienna- Döbling was named after him. After this was renamed Kuhngasse in 1949 , Poestiongasse in Vienna- Favoriten was dedicated to him in 1953 .
meaning
Poestion was a recognized expert in all Scandinavian languages . In a special way he dealt with Iceland . He translated both from the old Icelandic literature as well as modern authors, e.g. B. Henrik Ibsen . Poestion also published under the pseudonyms J. Calion and Svend Christiansen .
