Josef Poncar

Josef Poncar (born March 14, 1902 in Chodouň near Zdice , † November 6, 1986 in Zdice) was a Czech conductor and brass music composer.

Poncar grew up as the son of a princely chamber musician and at the age of eleven he was already leading his own band. After learning to be a carpenter , he worked full-time as an employee of the Czechoslovak Railways. He was also active as a musician and, along with Jaromír Vejvoda and Karel Vacek, is one of the well-known composers of Bohemian brass music. His most famous composition is the Polka Auf der Vogelwiese .
