Josef Redl the Younger
Josef Redl (born May 24, 1774 in Vienna ; † July 4, 1836 Vienna) was an Austrian painter .
Life
Josef Redl, son of the landscape painter Josef Redl the Elder (1732-1807) was a student at the Imperial and Royal Academy of Fine Arts from 1786 , where he studied with Hubert Maurer and after 1794 with Johann Baptist von Lampi . In 1802 he received an award as a history painter . In 1809 he became a proofreader for the subject of drawing based on a model and based on antiquity, and from 1820 he succeeded Franz Caucig (1755–1828) as professor of history painting . Friedrich von Amerling was one of his students at the academy. His works, mostly altar leaves, identify him as one of the last classicists at the Vienna Academy.
