Josef Roeckerath

Josef Roeckerath (born August 22, 1879 in Cologne , † January 20, 1955 in Düsseldorf ) was President of the Regional Court and member of the Reich Economic Court.

Life

After attending the humanistic grammar school in Cologne, he studied law and political science in Bonn, Berlin and Cologne. He was a member of the Catholic student union KDStV Bavaria Bonn in the CV , the KAV Suevia Berlin and founding senior of the AV Hansea Berlin. In 1903 he received his doctorate. jur. with one of the first dissertations on the civil code, which the son-in-law of his uncle Peter Joseph Roeckerath Karl Bachem had helped to shape in essential points, especially marriage and family law, on the advantages of the community of the civil code over the common law communio incidens. After graduating, he decided to become a judge . He quickly became President of the Regional Court and later a member of the Reich Economic Court and the Rhenish Shipping Senate. As a Christian oriented person close to the center , National Socialism interrupted his career and he had to resign from all offices.

After the war he was appointed President of the Senate at the Düsseldorf Higher Regional Court.
