Josef Schärli

Josef Schärli (born January 24, 1920 in Luthern ; † August 16, 2008 in Stans ) was provost of Beromünster Abbey . In addition, he was the long-time chairman of the national presidium of the Swiss Schoenstatt Movement .

Life

Josef Schärli was ordained a priest in Solothurn on June 29, 1948 . He was a pastor in Sursee from 1973 to 1988 . In 1988 he was elected provost of the Beromünster Collegiate Foundation, founded in 1036, by the government council of the Canton of Lucerne ; an office that he held until July 31, 2008. Among other things, he was involved in the extensive renovation work of eleven collegiate houses. From 1974 to 1994 he was also canon of the Lucerne estate in the diocese of Basel, and he was appointed canon of honor.

In the fifties he was vicar in the parish of St.Leodegar in Lucerne, where he led the youth clubs Jungwacht, Jungmannschaft and Blauring.

He died of a stroke and was buried in the Beromünster.
