Josef Schützenberger

Josef Schützenberger (born June 12, 1918 in Steinbach an der Steyr ; † February 14, 2009 ) was an Upper Austrian politician ( SPÖ ), cutter and works council. From 1964 to 1974 he was a member of the Upper Austrian Landtag and from 1974 to 1979 the Provincial Councilor for Health and the Upper Austrian Provincial Government .

education and profession

Schützenberger attended elementary school in Steinbach and then continued his education at the advanced training and vocational school, where he learned the trade of milling cutter. He was drafted into the Reich Labor Service in 1938 and enlisted in the Wehrmacht in 1939 . After his return from the Second World War, he worked in the Steyr works from 1945, and in 1947 he switched to the United Austrian Iron and Steel Works as a metal worker . Schützenberger worked as a foreman from 1948 and became deputy foreman in 1950. From 1950 to 1953 he acted as a works council for the workers and was elected chairman of the workers' works council in 1957.

Politics and functions

Schützenberger joined the SPÖ in 1945 and was a member of the general assembly of the workers' pension insurance company between 1953 and 1956 and a member of the board of the regional health insurance fund for Upper Austria between 1956 and 1959. In addition, between 1956 and 1979 he was active as a councilor in the chamber for workers and salaried employees for Upper Austria and from 1959 was chairman of the regional health insurance fund for Upper Austria. Schützenberger represented the SPÖ Upper Austria between April 3, 1964 and December 5, 1974 in the Upper Austrian state parliament, where he was a member of the immunity and incompatibility committee and chairman of the committee for public welfare. Between December 5, 1974 and October 24, 1979 he was Provincial Councilor for Health and Nature Conservation in the Upper Austrian Provincial Government.

As a regional councilor, he implemented the expansion of vaccination campaigns, the improvement of care for alcohol and drug sufferers, measures in the school health service and the intensification of the use of the food police to protect consumers. Furthermore, he was considered a pioneer of nature and environmental protection in Upper Austria, whereby around half a dozen nature parks go back to his initiative and he campaigned for the protection of the lakeshore from construction.

Private

Schützenberger was married to Leopoldine Hahnl from 1947 and has two sons.
