Josef Schatz (politician, 1920)

Josef Schatz (born April 17, 1920 in Strem ; † December 9, 1999 ibid) was an Austrian politician ( ÖVP ) and farmer. Schatz was married and from 1949 to 1968 a member of the Burgenland Landtag .

Schatz was born as the son of the farmer Alois Schatz and attended elementary school in Strem and the farmer's school in Jormannsdorf. He then worked as a farmer and served in the Wehrmacht from 1940 to 1945 during the Second World War . Schatz represented the ÖVP between November 4, 1949 and April 17, 1968 in the Burgenland State Parliament and was also mayor of the Strem municipality between 1962 and 1971. Furthermore, Schatz was active as a councilor in the Burgenland Chamber of Agriculture from 1963 to 1968 , held the function of district chairman of the farmers' union in the Güssing district from 1962 to 1967 and was also ÖVP district party secretary. Schatz, who was awarded the professional title of Economics Council in 1970 , was also involved as a board member and chairman of the Güssing dairy cooperative, as a board member of the Burgenland dairy association and supervisory board of ÖMOLK.
