Josef Spickermann

Josef Alexander Spickermann (born March 6, 1870 in Bloto, Lodz district (probably Zgniłe Błoto ), † March 22, 1947 in Leipzig ) was a German politician and member of the German minority in Poland in the Sejm of the Second Polish Republic .

Life

Family and work

Spickermann graduated from school in Łódź and passed the master craftsman's examination at the age of 19. He was also a real estate agent in Łódź. At the time of the German occupation from 1939 to 1945 he was head master of the carpenter's guild in Litzmannstadt, Reichsgau Wartheland .

Spickermann was married and had nine children, three of whom died in infancy. Three sons and three daughters reached adulthood and they all started families. In 1945 the Spickermanns family, who were joined by other relatives, managed to escape to Pouch near Bitterfeld .

Political career

From January 1919 on, Spickermann was a city councilor in Lodz. In the same year Spickermann and Ludwig Wolff were elected as representatives of the German People's Party (DVP) for the Lodz-Land- Łask - Brzeziny district in the Polish National Constituent Assembly (1919–1922) . Spickermann remained a member of parliament until 1920, but was re-elected to the Sejm from 1922 to 1928, now for the constituency of Konin - Koło - Lentschütz .

In 1923 he played a key role as a founding member of the Free Press , the press organ of the German People's Association in Poland. From 1928 to 1930 he was Senator for the Łódź Voivodeship . On November 22, 1930, Spickermann ran again successfully for the Senate, but had to cede his mandate to August Utta due to an "internal agreement" in the German People's Association . Then he withdrew from politics.
