Josef "Sepp" Wassermann (born May 15, 1967 in Garmisch-Partenkirchen ) is a former German ice hockey player . He was active as a striker from 1984 to 1996 at SC Riessersee , Mannheimer ERC , EC Hedos Munich , EHC 80 Nuremberg and in the German national team .

career

Wassermann began his career in the junior division of the SC Riessersee . With the various youth teams of the SCR he won a total of six Bavarian championship titles and one runner-up title. In addition, during this time he was once German champion and twice German runner-up. In total, he ran in about 200 games for the youth teams, in which he scored 450 goals and 200 assists. He was the top scorer several times.

In 1984 he made his debut for the SCR in the ice hockey Bundesliga . In the 1986/87 season he scored 20 goals, but the team had to be relegated to the 2nd Bundesliga ice hockey and Wassermann moved back to the 1st Bundesliga after a year in the ice hockey club at the Mannheim ERC . After three years in which he could only score six goals, he moved to EC Hedos Munich , but could not increase his scorer values.

In 1993 he joined the EHC 80 Nuremberg , which at that time was still playing in the second Bundesliga. In 1994 the professional team switched to the newly founded DEL as Nürnberg Ice Tigers . There he was able to continue his old achievements in the first DEL season and score 18 goals. In 1996 he ended his professional career.

He played 561 Bundesliga games, 450 of them in the 1st Bundesliga. He scored 109 goals, 169 assists and received 390 penalty minutes.

International

Wassermann took part in three Junior World Championships for the German national team, in two Junior European Championships and in the senior division in two international tournaments (in the 1990/91 season) in Saint Petersburg.

With the U20 national team, he took part in the B-Junior World Championship in 1987 and scored five goals.

In total, he came to 42 youth international games, where he acted as captain for five years and about 25 international games in the extended adult national team. In 1995 he was called back to the national team by George Kingston , the national coach at the time.
