Josef Winkler (born September 11, 1950 in Flattach ) is an Austrian forester , politician ( ÖVP ) and former member of the Austrian National Council .

education and profession

Josef Winkler attended the eight-year elementary school in Laas, in the municipality of Flattach, and from 1965 to 1968 switched to agricultural training as a home apprenticeship. From 1967 to 1971 he completed forestry training in Gainfarn and Bruck an der Mur and from 1972 to 1973 did military service. Winkler passed the state examination for forestry service in 1973 and passed the engineering examination in 1989.

Josef Winkler has been a forester at the Austrian Federal Forests since 1973. He bears the title of chief forester.

politics

From 1990 to 1992, Josef Winkler was a member of the Chamber of Commerce for Carinthia and from 1992 President of the Carinthian Chamber of Agriculture. In 2000 he was elected chairman of the Austrian Agricultural Chamber. In 2002, Winkler won a direct mandate in the regional electoral district of Carinthia West in the National Council election . He was sworn in on December 20, 2002 and ran in the 2006 National Council election in third place on the ÖVP state list and in first place in the electoral district of Carinthia West. However, due to the ÖVP's losses in the election, he failed to return to the National Council and resigned from the National Council on October 29, 2006.
