Franz Josef Wittemann

Franz Josef Wittemann (born March 24, 1866 in Buchen (Odenwald) , † September 10, 1931 in Karlsruhe ) was a German lawyer and politician of the Center Party .

Wittemann was from 1905 to 1918 a member of the 18th electoral district (Freiburg) in the Second Chamber of the Baden Estates Assembly and from 1919 to 1925 a member of the state parliament of the Republic of Baden , which he chaired from 1921 to 1923. In 1929 he was Minister of the Interior of Baden and from November 20, 1930 until his death President of the Republic of Baden and thus also head of the government .

In Buchen (Odenwald) , the President-Wittemann-Strasse is named after him.

He was a member of the KDStV Hercynia Freiburg im Breisgau and the KDStV Black Forest in the CV zu Karlsruhe.
