Josef Zeitlinger (born June 6, 1884 in Vienna ; † August 27, 1945 there ) was an Austrian cameraman and silent film director .

Live and act

Zeitlinger had trained as a photographer immediately after the turn of the century and joined cinematography before the First World War. He photographed his first work as a cameraman for the largest production company in Austria, Sascha-Film , for which he also worked as a director for several comedies ( Cocl -Filmgrotesken). Drafted during the First World War, Josef Zeitlinger mainly worked as a cameraman for the production department of the central office of the field cinema and only temporarily returned to feature films in 1917.

After the war he continued his camera work in Vienna, initially with splendid historical and graphic pictures by the directors Hans Otto Löwenstein ( The Duke of Reichstadt , The Emperor's Actors ) and Alexander Korda (as one of three cameramen for Samson and Delila ), later also in more modest productions by director Sidney M. Goldin, who came from New York for several guest performances . As early as 1923 Zeitlinger was unemployed as a feature film cameraman, but remained connected to the film industry until the Second World War.
