The Josefskapelle , also called the chapel on Josefsflecken , is a path chapel in the Ammergau Alps in the Upper Bavarian municipality of Unterammergau . In addition to the veneration of St. Joseph , the chapel also serves to commemorate those who died in the mountains.

location

The chapel is located on Josefsflecken, a clearing on the forest road from Unterammergau to the August-Schuster-Haus am Pürschling , at an altitude of about 1200 m. The small elevation on which the chapel stands is surrounded by a wooden fence with benches.

history

In 1907 Ludwig Fischer donated a figure of Saint Joseph that was attached to a tree.

The Unterammergau carver Josef (Sepp) Erhart († 2002) initiated the construction of a chapel for this figure in 1987, which began in 1989 according to his plans and was completed in 1991.
