The August-Schuster-Haus ( 1564  m above sea  level ) is a mountain hut in the Alps near Oberammergau in the Garmisch-Partenkirchen district and belongs to the Ammer Mountains . The hut is commonly named after the ridge on which it stands: Pürschlinghäuser . It was rebuilt between 1970 and 1972 and is dedicated to August Schuster , who was a founding member of the Bergland section of the German Alpine Club and who campaigned for the purchase of the Pürschling houses in 1919. Schuster founded and ran the Schuster sports store in Munich .

Where the August-Schuster-Haus now stands, the outbuildings to the former and still existing hunting lodge of King Max II previously stood . It is well known to long-distance hikers because it is on the E4 ( European long-distance hiking trail ), which connects the Pyrenees with Lake Neusiedl .
