Josep Pau Ballot i Torres

Josep Pau Ballot i Torres (* 1747 in Argentona , † October 21, 1821 in Barcelona ) was a Spanish theologian, Catalanist , Hispanist and grammarian.

life and work

Ballot studied theology and received his doctorate from the Jesuit University of Gandia . At the Colegio de Cordellas (Catalan: Col • legi de Cordelles) in Barcelona, ​​he held the chair for rhetoric.

Ballot wrote the first printed grammar of Catalan . The grammar of Joan Petit i Aguilar , written around the same time, remained a manuscript.
