Joan Petit i Aguilar

Joan Petit i Aguilar (born December 24, 1752 in Sant Feliu de Codines , Vallès Oriental , † November 15, 1829 in Sant Feliu de Codines) was a Spanish Catalan scholar and grammarian.

life and work

Petit studied medicine at the University of Cervera (doctorate 1775) and was a doctor in Sant Feliu. He wrote (around the same time as Josep Pau Ballot i Torres ) an extensive early grammar of Catalan that was only recently published.

In addition, he published a translation of the poems of Catullus and left behind the manuscript of a rhyming dictionary.

The library in his hometown bears his name.
