Josep Sunyol i Garriga (born July 21, 1898 in Barcelona , † August 6, 1936 in Sierra de Guadarrama ) was a Catalan politically active lawyer, journalist and president of FC Barcelona .

He came from a wealthy Catalan family. Sunyol became President of the Catalan Football Federation in the 1929/30 season and on July 27, 1935 he was elected President of FC Barcelona in the hope that he could solve the club's financial problems and help the club through the difficult times of repression by the Support military dictatorship. Sunyol was not only athletic, but after the end of the Primo de Rivera dictatorship, he was also politically active in the left-wing party “ Esquerra Republicana ”. He was also the founder and editor of the weekly sports magazine “La Rambla”, which was also left-wing and criticized the system under General Primo de Rivera.

In 1936 during the Spanish Civil War he was arrested by the troops of the dictator Francisco Franco while driving in the Sierra de Guadarrama and shot on the spot.
