Joseph-Marie Cardinal Trinh Van-Can (born March 19, 1921 in Trac But , Vietnam , † May 18, 1990 in Hanoi ) was Archbishop of Hanoi .

Life

His name combines western naming tradition ( Joseph-Marie as first name before the family name Trinh ) with Vietnamese ( Van-Can as a personal name is behind the family name).

Joseph-Marie Trinh Van-Can received his theological and philosophical training in the seminary in Hanoi. He received the sacrament of ordination on December 8, 1949 and then worked in the Diocese of Hanoi as a parish priest and administrative employee.

In 1963 Pope John XXIII appointed him . the Titular Archbishop of Aela and Koadjutorerzbischof of the Archdiocese of Hanoi with the right of succession. The episcopal ordination received his Joseph Marie Cardinal Trịnh Như Khuê on June 2, 1963. In 1978 he became the successor of Cardinal Trịnh Như Khuê as archbishop of Hanoi, a year later it Pope took John Paul II. As cardinal priest with the titular church of Santa Maria in Via in the College of Cardinals . Joseph-Marie Trinh Van-Can died on May 18, 1990 in Hanoi and was buried in the cathedral there.
