Joseph Anton Zimmermann
Joseph Anton Zimmermann (* 1705 in Augsburg ; † November 29, 1797 in Munich ) was a German engraver .
Live and act
Joseph Anton Zimmermann received his artistic training in Regensburg and Augsburg. In 1749 he came to Munich, where he received the title of court copper engraver in 1752 . In the same year he was given the privilege to publish a "Chur-Bavarian Spiritual Calendar". His most important work is a portrait collection of the Bavarian ruling house from 1773 with 150 sheets. Another work was the "Domus Wittelbachensis Numismatica, or collection of all existing coins and medals of the most illustrious Wittelsbach parent company of the Ludovic and Rudolph lines" from 1784 with 34 copper engravings. He died in poverty after a long illness.
