Anton Joseph Fischer (* 1780 in Vienna ; † October 9, 1862 in Mannheim ) was a German opera singer , impresario and composer .

Career

His father, the opera singer Ludwig Fischer , trained his son himself in music and otherwise gave him an excellent education. At the age of 16 he already had a powerful bass , which he first performed publicly in several concerts in Berlin in 1799. From July 1800 to February 1802 he performed in Mannheim, where he was immediately hired as the first bass player, but later exchanged Mannheim for Kassel, where he was also given the opera direction, and in 1806 undertook a long journey to Paris and through Germany, on which he celebrated great success.

In 1806 he adopted the daughter Anna of the actor and singer couple Carl Miedke and Charlotte Miedke , who later became Anna Fischer-Maraffa , whom he trained to be a celebrated soprano and with whom he completed several concert tours throughout Europe, during which both gained significant reputations. In Italy, where he turned after the end of the German guest performances and where he also tried his luck as an entrepreneur - in Palermo - the applause was particularly great. After his marriage to the wealthy Countess Luise von Ottweiler, a daughter from Prince Ludwig's connection with Katharina Kest , he gave up his career as an artist, returned to Germany and lived in seclusion until his death in Mannheim. As a composer, Fischer is less important; his songs, which were published in twelve volumes, are now forgotten.
