Joseph Ibanez

Joseph Ibanez (born January 21, 1927 in Montblanc , † June 20, 2009 ) was a French football player and coach .

Career

Ibanez was from 1949 in the squad of the Chamois Niort , with which he entered the top amateur division Championnat de France Amateur . In 1952, the 165 centimeter tall midfielder was signed by the first division club AS Saint-Étienne . On November 23, 1952, he completed his first game in the top national league in an encounter against the Stade Rennes , which was his debut in professional football . Subsequently, the 25-year-old at the time of the debut was regularly used, although he was not given a permanent place at a time when substitutions and substitutions were not yet possible. So he remained an important part of a team that mostly found itself in the upper middle of the table until he was largely ousted from the team in the course of the 1955/56 season.

In the summer of 1956 Ibanez went to the second division club FC Perpignan , where he became the undisputed top performer and even stood in all league games in the course of the 1956/57 season. This stayed that way until Perpignan was relegated from 1959 for licensing reasons. At that time, the then 32-year-old ended his professional career after 54 first division games with four goals for Saint-Étienne and 110 second division games with one goal in Perpignan's jersey. In 1960 he began his coaching career with the amateur club SO Châtellerault . This was followed by his move to AS Angoulême in 1961 , which he coached until the club rose to the second division in 1965.
