Joseph J. Solomon

Joseph J. Solomon (* in Providence , Rhode Island ) is an American politician ( Democratic Party ) and has been Mayor of Warwick , Rhode Island since 2018 .

Solomon attended Classical High School in Providence. After graduating from high school, he studied accounting at Providence College . He received a Juris Doctor from the New England School of Law in Boston .

In the 1970s he moved to Warwick, Rhode Island. There he was the first chief judge of the Warwick Municipal Court , an office that he held for five years. He also practiced as a lawyer, and worked as an auditor and car dealer. From 2000 he was a member of the Warwick City Council for the fourth constituency . He was elected Council President four times in the city council . As such, he took on the vacant office of mayor of the city in 2018 after previous incumbent Scott Avedisian resigned before the end of his term to become Chief Executive Officer of the Rhode Island Public Transit Authority . Solomon was sworn in as mayor on May 16. In the next regular mayoral election in November of the same year, he was able to prevail against his Republican opponent with 60% to 39.7% of the votes and was confirmed in office.

Solomon is married with one son, Joseph J. Solomon Jr. , who is also a politician.
