Joseph Klotz
Joseph Klotz (born April 25, 1785 in Munich ; † February 15, 1830 there ) was a German painter , lithographer and set designer .
He received his first painting lessons from his father, the theater painter Matthias Klotz (1748–1821). In his youth he visited France and northern Germany. In Paris and Berlin he studied the works of the old and modern masters.
Klotz was best known as a stage painter . From 1821 he worked at the Royal Court Theater in Munich as his father's successor as a court theater painter for landscapes.
He also created paintings in oils and watercolor as well as drawings. His masterpiece is the theater setting depicting the great fire of Moscow in 1812 , which was shown in the Theater am Isarthor on July 3, 1814. His view of Munich from 1817 is preserved in the collections of the Neue Pinakothek in Munich.
Since Joseph Klotz's activity was mainly devoted to stage design, very few of his works have survived.
