Joseph Maria Wolfram

Joseph Maria Wolfram (born July 21, 1789 in Dobrzan , † September 30, 1839 in Teplitz ) was a Bohemian composer.

Life

Wolfram received a musical education at an early age and was already considered a talented musician at the age of 10. His first compositions were written in 1807.

Wolfram initially studied philosophy at the German University in Prague. He also took lessons in harmony with Joseph Drechsler . In 1811 he moved to the University of Vienna, where he began studying law. After taking the state examination, Wolfram worked as an official in the state government in Prague. In 1819 he changed to the services of the city of Teplitz as a magistrate, where he worked until his death and in 1824 took over the office of mayor.

In addition to operas, his musical works also include singspiele, songs, symphonies, string quartets and piano pieces.
