Joseph Rudolph Grimes

Joseph Rudolph Grimes (born October 31, 1923 , † September 7, 2007 in Guttenberg , New Jersey ) was a Liberian lawyer and politician.

Career

Grimes was born the son of lawyer Louis Arthur Grimes and Victoria Grimes. He attended the College of West Africa and graduated from Liberia College with a Bachelor of Arts degree . He then went to Harvard Law School , where he earned a law degree. He completed a master's degree in international relations from Columbia University in New York.

After his return, he founded the Louis Arthur Grimes School of Law at Liberia College, named after his father, and was its first dean from 1951.

After he had already served as Secretary of State in the Liberian Foreign Ministry, he took over provisional management of the Ministry in 1958 and became Secretary of State in 1960 under President William S. Tubman . He stayed in office until 1971.
