Joseph Schütz (Slavist)

Joseph Schütz (* as Josif Josifovic Sjutc on October 4, 1922 in Kathreinfeld in the western Banat; † November 11, 1999 ) was a German Slavist .

Life

Joseph Schütz studied at the Philosophical Faculties of the Universities of Leipzig and Berlin and Munich. In 1954 he received his doctorate. In 1960 he completed his habilitation and worked as a private lecturer. In 1964 he was offered a chair for Slavic Philology, Slavic Languages ​​and Literature at the University of Erlangen-Nuremberg and took over the chairmanship of the Institute for Slavic Studies. In 1990 he retired.

Joseph Schütz was involved in numerous social projects in the Holy Land and was a member of the German Association of the Holy Land . In 1976 he was appointed Knight of the Order of Knights of the Holy Sepulcher by Cardinal Grand Master Maximilien de Fürstenberg and invested in Trier Cathedral on May 8, 1976 by Franz Hengsbach , Grand Prior of the Papal Order in Germany. Most recently he was Commander of the Papal Laity Order.
