Joseph Warren Ray

Joseph Warren Ray (born May 25, 1849 in Nineveh , Greene County , Pennsylvania , †  September 15, 1928 in Waynesburg , Pennsylvania) was an American politician . Between 1889 and 1891 he represented the state of Pennsylvania in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Joseph Ray attended public schools in his home country. In 1874 he graduated from Waynesburg College . After a subsequent law degree and his admission as a lawyer in 1876, he began to work in this profession in Waynesburg. At the same time he embarked on a political career as a member of the Republican Party .

In the congressional election of 1888 Ray was elected to the United States House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the 24th  constituency of Pennsylvania , where he succeeded Oscar Lawrence Jackson on March 4, 1889 . Since he was not nominated for re-election by his party in 1890, he could only complete one legislative period in Congress until March 3, 1891 .

After serving in the US House of Representatives, Ray returned to practice as a lawyer. From 1902 until his death he was the curator of Waynesburg College . Between 1915 and 1926 he was presiding judge in the 13th judicial district of his state. Then he worked again as a lawyer. Joseph Ray died on September 15, 1928 in Waynesburg, where he was also buried.
