Joseph Weingärtner

Joseph Weingärtner (born January 22, 1805 in Münster ; † September 7, 1896 ibid), also Josef Weingärtner , was a German lawyer , author and numismatist .

Education and professional life

He attended the Paulinum grammar school in Münster and then studied law from 1823 to 1826 at the universities of Bonn and Berlin . He began his legal career in civil service in 1826 as an auscultator at the Higher Regional Court in Münster. From 1828 he was a trainee lawyer and from 1832 an assessor at the Vreden regional and municipal court . As a district and city judge, he became the conductor of the court deputation in Salzkotten in 1843 and a year later he was director of the district and city court in Vlotho . In 1849 he was appointed director of the district court in Warburg . He stayed there until his retirement on October 1, 1879. After his retirement he moved to Münster.

Act

Weingärtner emerged as the author of several historical, but especially numismatic, works. It also wrote Low German texts.

During his time as district court director, the new Warburg courthouse was built from 1860 to 1862 . As a judge, he was chairman of the trial at the Paderborn jury court against the Wildschütz Klostermann . He was also a connoisseur of the Low German language, so he held some trials partly in Low German.

Awards

Weingärtner was an honorary citizen of the city of Warburg.
