Joseph Woods

Joseph Woods (born August 24, 1776 in Stoke Newington , † January 9, 1864 in Lewes , Sussex ) was an English architect and amateur botanist and geologist. Its official botanical author abbreviation is " J.Woods ". The abbreviation “ Woods ” was also used earlier .

Live and act

He worked as an architect in London until 1833 and then devoted himself to botany. He founded the London Architectural Society in 1806. From 1816 he traveled through Europe with an architectural, botanical and geological interest and published about it.

Honor taxon

The genus of the eyelash ferns ( Woodsia R.Br. ) in the family of the eyelash ferns (Woodsiaceae) has been named after him.
