Joshua Jacobs (born February 11, 1998 in Tulsa , Oklahoma ) is an American football player in the running back position . He is under contract with the Oakland Raiders in the National Football League (NFL). He played college football for the Alabama Crimson Tide , the University of Alabama football team . Jacobs was selected by the Raiders as the 24th pick in the 2019 NFL Draft .

Early career

Jacobs attended McLain High School in Tulsa, Oklahoma. During his high school career, he scored 5,372 yards and 56 touchdowns. He signed up to play college football at the University of Alabama.

college

Jacobs' talent was not yet recognized in high school; he eventually got a college spot through Twitter. A friend gave Jacobs the idea to upload videos of his game to Twitter. The videos spread like wildfire, and he received dozens of requests from the most prominent colleges. Eventually he went to the University of Alabama.

A freshman to Alabama in 2016, he ran 567 yards and four touchdowns in 85 runs. As a sophomore in 2017, he ran 284 yards and a touchdown on 46 runs. After the season it was found that he had played with a broken ankle for most of the season. As a junior, he was named MVP of the 2018 SEC Championship Game after running 83 yards with two touchdowns.

NFL

The Oakland Raiders selected Jacobs in the first round (24th overall) of the 2019 NFL Draft. The pick was originally acquired by the Chicago Bears in a deal that brought Khalil Mack to Chicago.

Personal

As a child, Jacobs lived in poverty with his father and sometimes had to sleep in the back seat of his father's car. Not used to his own bed, he slept on the floor for the first few months at the University of Alabama.
