Josh Weinstein (* 5. May 1966 in Alexandria , Virginia as Joshua Moses Weinstein ) is an American television writer and producer, known for his work on the animated series The Simpsons .

Life

Josh Weinstein and Bill Oakley became best friends and writing partners at St. Albans High School; Weinstein then attended Stanford University and was editor-in-chief of the Stanford Chaparral. He worked on several short-term media projects, including writing for the Sunday Best variety show , but was then long unemployed.

Weinstein and Oakley eventually wrote a spec script for Seinfeld , whereupon they wrote Marge Must Work , an episode of The Simpsons . The two were then hired in 1992 to write permanently for the series. After seeing episodes like Obsessed By The Devil , Bart vs. Australia, and Who Shot Mr. Burns? The two were named executive producers and showrunners for the seventh and eighth seasons of the show. They attempted to include several emotional episodes focusing on the Simpson family, as well as several conceptual episodes such as Homer Had an Enemy , The Bad Neighbors, and Everything Scam , and won three Primetime Emmy Awards for their work.

After leaving the Simpsons , Oakley and Weinstein designed Mission Hill . The show was plagued by advertising spending and was quickly canceled, but developed a cult following in the years that followed. They worked as consultant producers for Futurama and created The Mullets in 2003. The two wrote several unsuccessful television pilots and served as showrunners for Sit Down, Shut Up in 2009 . Oakley left the project over a contract dispute, but Weinstein stayed until she was deposed. He co-produced and wrote again for Futurama during the Comedy Central Revival and won an Emmy in 2011. Weinstein has been the showrunner for the CBBC series Strange Hill High since 2013 and for Danger Mouse since 2015 . He also worked as a writer on the second season of Welcome to Gravity Falls and co-wrote nine episodes of the season.

In 2018, Weinstein collaborated with Matt Groening on the Netflix animated series Disenchantment , on which he and Oakley are currently co-showrunners. Weinstein has been married to the journalist Lisa Simmons since July 2, 1995. The couple have two children.
