Josip Barković

Josip Barković (born January 16, 1918 in Otočac , Austria-Hungary ; † December 7, 2011 in Zagreb , Croatia ), was a Croatian writer , screenwriter and film director .

life and work

Josip Barković grew up in Otočac, Gospić , Karlovac and Belgrade . He began studying in Zagreb, which he had to give up because of the Second World War . He later fought with the partisans against the Nazis. After the war he became an editor at Radio Zagreb , art director at Jadran Film and editor-in-chief at Izvor i Krugovi magazine and later at Lykos i Epoha .

Barković wrote his first poems and short stories as early as the mid-1930s. With Sinovi slobode 1948, his first novel. His double novel Dolina djetinjstva , published in 1955 and 1956, is the only work that was published in German. Valley of Childhood was published in 1960 by Karl Dietz Verlag Berlin . With Marsal Tito u Hrvatskoj and Sinji galeb , Barković wrote two film scripts, and he also directed the first, a short film documentary.
