Jostiband

The Jostiband Orchester (or Jostiband ) is a Dutch orchestra for the mentally disabled .

history

The Jostiband was founded in September 1966 as a music club of the then Jo hannes Sti chting (Johannes Foundation) from Nieuwveen . In 1974 the residents of this facility for the disabled moved to Zwammerdam , where the orchestra has been based ever since.

The Jostiband has around 160 members and is the largest orchestra with exclusively mentally handicapped musicians worldwide. The concerts take place monthly in the Netherlands and occasionally abroad.

As part of the coronation of King Willem-Alexander of the Netherlands , the Jostiband played for the royal couple from a ship on the IJ in Amsterdam . On July 6, 2013, the orchestra took part in one of André Rieu's concerts. On September 5, 2016, the Jostiband held a big anniversary concert on the occasion of its 50th anniversary. Participants included Armin van Buuren , Gerard Joling , René Froger , Marco Borsato and Ellen ten Damme .

The orchestra is directed by Lyan Verburg .
