Jothan Callins

Jothan McKinley Callins (born October 29, 1942 in Birmingham , Alabama ; † April 30, 2005 ibid) was an American jazz musician ( trumpet , flugelhorn , electric bass ).

Life

Callins worked in the course of his music career a. a. with Lionel Hampton , Chuck Mangione , Stevie Wonder and BB King . In 1975 he and his band Sounds of Togetherness presented the album Winds of Change (Triumph Records), on which Cecil McBee , Roland Duval , Norman Connors and Joseph Bonner participated. In the late 1960s he was a short member of the Sun Ra Arkestra, to be heard on the albums The Solar-Myth Approach Volume II and Atlantis . In 1989 he rejoined the band, with whom he worked in 1992 a. a. toured Germany and Switzerland ( Live in Ulm and Destination Unknown ). In the field of jazz he was involved in 14 recording sessions between 1967 and 2001, including a. with Arlette Beauchamps . In 1979 he was inducted into the Alabama Jazz Hall of Fame .
