The Metro Station Jourdain is an underground station of Line 11 of the Paris Métro .

location

The station is located on the border of the Quartier d'Amérique in the 19th arrondissement with the Quartier de Belleville in the 20th arrondissement of Paris . It is located alongside the Rue de Belleville at the intersection of the Rue Lassus - Rue du Jourdain.

Surname

The name gives the Rue du Jourdain. It was named after the Jordan River, in whose waters Jesus Christ is said to have been baptized .

History and description

The station was put into operation on April 28, 1935 with the opening of line 11, which then ran on the section from Châtelet to Porte des Lilas . In 1956, line 11 was converted to run on rubber-tyred trains .

It lies in a gentle curve, is 75 m long and has two side platforms on two main tracks. The cross-section is elliptical , the ceiling and walls are tiled in white. The side walls follow the curvature of the ellipse.

The three entrances are all in the area of ​​the above-mentioned intersection. They are each marked by a candelabra designed by Adolphe Dervaux in the Art Deco style .

vehicles

Initially, conventional Sprague-Thomson trains ran on line 11 . In the mid-1950s, it was the first to be prepared for passenger use with rubber-tired vehicles. The MP 55 series was used for the first time on November 13, 1956. In January 1999 they were replaced by the MP 59 series , and MP 73 trains have also been running since 2009 .
