The Journal of Alloys and Compounds is in peer-reviewed published procedure scientific journal , the experimental and theoretical solutions to material problems which compounds and alloys are involved published. It is published by Elsevier , the current editor-in-chief is Ludwig Schultz from the Technical University of Dresden . It is the first journal to deal with a specific group of inorganic elements.

history

The magazine was founded in 1958 by William Hume-Rothery as the Journal of the Less-Common Metals and dealt with chemical elements from the groups of actinides and lanthanides . The latter are also known as rare earth metals . However, not only elements from these groups were dealt with, but articles on the manufacture and use of alloys and other elements were also published.

The magazine was founded as a result of an international symposium on metals and alloys that melt at over 1200 ° C. The symposium was organized by Hume-Rothery and took place on September 17th and 18th, 1958 at the University of Oxford . There were more than 100 participants from different countries. The papers published there appeared as issue 1 of the journal. This was the first journal to deal with a specific group of inorganic elements.

The title "Less-Common Metals" was rather inaccurate, as the elements occur more frequently, but only in small quantities. It was given its current name in 1991 and is an extensive source of information for the hydrogen-metal system.

In 2017 it was reported that Elsevier withdrew three articles from the magazine because they were affected by fake reviews. This led to a general discussion about the review process for scientific articles.

The journal is indexed by Chemical Abstracts Service , Current Contents , Science Citation Index, and Scopus . The impact factor in 2019 was 4,650.
