The ProContent CJSC is a nonprofit educational institution for training of journalists and PR people , since 1993, first as a journalist school Ruhr , later as Medienakademie Ruhr in Essen operates. ProContent offers more than 150 open seminars and eleven volunteer courses at the Essen, Hamburg , Berlin and Munich locations each year .

history

Founded in 1993 in Essen as the Ruhr School of Journalism and since then active as an institution for the inter-company training and further education of journalists, ProContent has been operating under the name Medienakademie Ruhr since January 1, 2010, and under its new name ProContent since October 2019. In 2010 ProContent was also recognized as a non-profit organization. Since December 21, 2011, the non-profit media support foundation Ruhr in Düsseldorf (recognized by the Düsseldorf district government) has been the sole shareholder of ProContent gAG.

On January 1, 2016, there will for the first time be a significant expansion of the educational offerings with regard to electronic media , cross-media offerings as well as PR and public relations work through the merger with the Evangelical Media Academy in Düsseldorf. The name Medienakademie Ruhr was used as a uniform brand in the external appearance.

The academy offers training and further education under the company name ProContent.

Initial and continuing education

ProContent offers four-week volunteer compact seminars for journalism print & online, magazines, radio journalism and PR. Additional courses for volunteers can also be completed. The offers are aimed at volunteers from all publishers and companies. In addition, young journalists are trained in so-called "summer schools" - workshops lasting several days that impart the basics of journalism and bring young people together with media practitioners and senior editors.

In further training, ProContent organizes one to three-day, open seminars in the areas of journalism, print , online & digital , radio journalism , TV journalism & moving images, media training, PR, online PR, social media , marketing , presentation training, management seminars and agile project management as well modular certificate courses. In addition, nationwide individually arranged seminars on all topics from journalism, communication and PR are designed and carried out with specialist speakers.

Speakers and equipment

The academy employs trainers with didactic competence who, in addition to their theoretical knowledge, are also media practitioners and report on everyday life in or with the media. ProContent works with more than 300 speakers who, among other things, work as journalists from a wide range of media, communication trainers, PR consultants and speech trainers.

The academy, headquartered in Essen, is equipped in its seminar rooms with laptop workstations with internet, multimedia technology (video and radio editing technology), equipment for mobile reporting (including flash recorder, gimbal) and video cameras. In cooperation, seminars are held in a three-camera television studio.

For radio training, ProContent has two radio studios above the city of Essen, in which training is carried out on the microphone and mixer.
