Joyashree Roy

Joyashree Roy (born October 1, 1957 ) is an Indian economist, energy and climate scientist. She was appointed to the newly established Bangabandhu Chair at the Asian Institute of Technology in 2018 .

Life

Roy earned a PhD from Jadavpur University. She was an Indian Council of Social Sciences Research Fellow and a Ford Foundation Postdoctoral Fellow at the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory in the United States. She worked in the Department of Economics at Jadavpur University .

The Bangabandhu Chair of Sustainable Energy was officially inaugurated on March 15, 2018 following the signing of a letter of intent between the Asian Institute of Technology (AIT) and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Government of Bangladesh. Roy became the first female professor to hold a chair.

Act

Roy deals with the sustainable use of energy and takes a holistic approach.

Roy is one of the authors of the IPCC's Fourth Assessment Report (2007). She is one of the authors of the IPCC's special report on global warming of 1.5 degrees (2018).
