With the Js Ineos Insight , the shipyard Nantong Sinopacific Offshore & Engineering in Qidong , China delivered the first of a series of eight large multi-gas tankers for the transport of liquid gas in 2015 . It is one of the first ships whose propulsion engines are powered by ethane.
history
A new chapter in Grangemouth's history begins with the arrival of US shale gas in the UK . "So much gas is produced in America that the gas import terminals are now being converted into export terminals," said Ineos CEO and founder Jim Ratcliffe. Evergas of Copenhagen , wholly owned by Greenship Gas of Singapore and Jaccar Holdings of Luxembourg , has a 15-year charter for the supply of ethane raw materials with Ineos, a group of privately owned chemical companies headquartered in London completed the shale gas field in western Pennsylvania. Deliveries are made to the chemical group's refineries in Scotland and Norway.
This is the first time ethane from US shale gas has been shipped to the UK. In order to prepare Grangemouth for the gas, millions have been invested in the modernization of the 680 hectare Scottish site. A new import terminal was set up there for deletion. A pipeline of almost five kilometers was laid to transport the gas from the port to the new 40 meter high ethane storage tank, the largest of its kind in Europe.
For many years, the olefin plant only operated at half capacity - and thus made huge losses - because there was not enough North Sea gas , which is the starting material for Ineos. Otherwise INEOS would have had to close the loss-making petrochemical plant because of the significant decline in North Sea gas.
Ship description
The Js Ineos Insight , with a capacity of 27,500 m³ , was equipped with two prime movers that can be operated with ethane boil-off from the cargo as well as LNG and diesel. With a length of 180.3 m, (Lpp 170.8 m) width of 26.6 m and a draft of 9.4 m, the load capacity is 20,100 dwt.
The ship was equipped by Wärtsilä with an integrated equipment system, which includes engines, liquid gas fuel systems and handling facilities. The main engine power (MCR) of the 2 main engines, each 5,850 kW, results in a service speed of 16 knots.
Two type C tanks with a capacity of 9686 m³ each and a smaller, conically shaped tank in front of 8,194 m³ make a total of 27566 m³. The minimum permissible storage temperature of the multi-gas tanker is −163 ° C at which LNG is transported, and the maximum permissible tank pressure is 4.5 bar, which is suitable for LPG and the entire range of petrochemical gases.
The ship received the class designation BV I, + HULL, + MACH, liquid gas carrier, type 2G, dual fuel
